Straight answer: we protect the cash and the way the swap happens. Here’s exactly what that means.

Any cash held safely by Trustap

It only goes across when you’ve both scanned at the meet. If the swap doesn’t happen, it comes back.

Nothing’s final until you both scan

You see the other kit before anything changes hands. No posting first and hoping.

Both of you identity checked

You can only swap once you’re Verified through Trustap, so nobody swaps with a ghost account.

The ID number check

For vehicles, the VIN, frame or hull number shows privately once you’ve agreed, so you can match it on the spot. Road vehicles also show their DVSA MOT history.

What to check, for your type

A short list of what an expert would look at on a jet ski, an e-bike, a caravan and the rest.

A record of everything

Chat, identities, items, photos, and when and where you swapped. Ready for the police, your insurer or a small claims court if you ever need it.

Cash is charged like a normal sale of that amount, paid by whoever receives it. Same fees as selling, nothing extra.

You both pay half. You both get the same cover, so it’s fair both ways.

No free swaps through Piston Tribe. Every swap has a fee, even item for item. You can always sort a swap out privately in chat, but then it’s at your own risk.

What happens, and who pays

Before you meetChanged your minds?

Cancel together: everything goes back, fee and cash.
One of you backs out or doesn’t turn up: they lose their half of the fee. The other gets their half and any cash back.

At the meetNot as described?

Don’t scan. Cancel there and then.
Any cash goes straight back.
Whoever misdescribed their kit loses their half of the fee. You get yours back.
If they disagree, our team decides from the listing and the chat.

After the swapFound a problem later?

The swap is final, like any private sale.
Use the Resolution Centre within 30 days and we’ll help you talk it through.
Download your record of the swap for the police, your insurer or a small claims court.
You can both agree to swap back. It’s a new swap, with the usual fee.

Good to know

Can I swap by post?

Not yet. Swaps are face to face, so you both see what you’re getting before anything’s final.

Can I swap a whole vehicle?

Yes. Any cash follows the same rules as buying a vehicle, including the deposit and the bank transfer for bigger amounts.

Why do we both pay?

You both get the same cover, and nothing moves until you’ve both scanned. Splitting it keeps it fair.

What if they don’t turn up?

Report it in the swap. You get your half of the fee and any cash back, and they lose theirs.

Do I need to be Verified?

Yes, both of you. It takes a few minutes through Trustap, and it’s the same check sellers already do.

What can I swap?

Anything you’ve listed: vehicles, parts, tools and gear. Shop items can’t be swapped.
